Outlier monitoring
One of the main aims of the NJR is to monitor outcomes relating to prostheses and surgical practice. A statistical methodology for detecting higher than expected surgical revision rates, or ‘outliers’, has been developed for this purpose.
In the event that an outlier revision rate is identified, an agreed process will be followed by the NJR, to ensure that the results are investigated. Both processes have the support of the British Orthopaedic Society (BOA).
